Eating in Manchester
Places to eat
Manchester has a variety of exclusive restaurants, including loads of lovely, cheap food joints that are perfect for university students. These are the best places we recommend to eat without blowing too much of your student loan.
This is in Chinatown, set in the basement of a supermarket. Although it looks very basic, the food here is excellent and well in budget.
Based in Spinningfields which is known for being the expensive part of Manchester to most students. However, The Kitchens is made up of six street food specialists to create a huge variety of food which is good value for money.
Proper Italian pizzas whose prices are a lot better than the likes of Dominoes. They are set up in Ancoats, which is Manchester’s very own version of Italy.
This & That
This place has earned itself the ‘hidden gem’ status, offering the “rice and three” which is three different delicious curries layered over a bed of rice for only £5.
Separate from the generic food court and so much better in every way. Good freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices, loads and loads of excellent lunch deals.
Northern Soul Mcr
Won CityLife Award for best casual dining, possibly the best sandwiches in Manchester and that shows with the number of people that visit daily.
Lebanese street food based very close to Manchester Universities. Great food, great prices.
Changos Burrito Bar
Often queuing outside the door at lunchtime but if you’re patient/lucky enough to get to the counter you can get a chicken/veggie wrap, nachos and a drink all for £4.95 in their lunch deal. Extremely tasty.
Japanese noodle and sushi bar hidden on oxford road. Based across the road from the Geoffrey Manton Building but it is hidden in-between The Footage and Subway with nothing but a little sign to go by. It's good food and its cheap, they also do student discount.
Not quite exclusive to Manchester but they are dotted about all over the city and they are good. Burgers, shakes, desserts, all good prices and all really tasty.
